Romania is not facing, at the moment, serious situations or major impact due to snow and wind, said Thursday evening the head of the Department for Emergency Situations (DSU) Raed Arafat, in an intervention on Digi24. He specified that only occasional problems were recorded, especially partially closed roads and trees blown down by the wind.
Christmas brought snow and sleet to much of the country, with the southern part under a yellow snow code until today at 8 p.m. In Oltenia it will continue to snow blizzard until the evening. Meteorologists have also announced that, in certain areas, a layer of snow will be deposited that can even reach 25 cm.
“Fortunately, we have no serious problems, they are not serious situations or with a major impact. There were two roads partially closed in Olt county and where the snow removal people worked to open them, but they are partially closed, so traffic is not interrupted, and a communal road where there were problems, some cars slid in Teleorman county,” said the head of the DSU.
According to Raed Arafat, 20 trees fell due to the wind in Bucharest – Ilfov: “There are no victims, there are no special situations, there are no cases that could not be solved or that cannot be reached”.
The head of the DSU recalled that on Wednesday, December 24, a video conference was held with all authorities and emergency committees in areas under yellow code.
Asked what the most vulnerable areas are: “So we're under code yellow. Normally there shouldn't be any serious problems, but usually areas that have been affected before can be affected more seriously now because of the wind, if it's blizzarding overnight. I can't tell you this area or that area depends on how the wind is going to be, what the amount of precipitation is going to be, but being under code yellow, hopefully we won't have very difficult situations or very heavy”, said the head of DSU, Raed Arafat.
