“I renew this request to all people of good faith to observe at least one day of peace in this celebration of the Savior's birth”declared the Sovereign Pontiff while leaving his residence at Castel Gandolfo, near Rome, before returning to the Vatican, notes Agerpres.
“Maybe they will listen to us and there will be 24 hours of peace around the world”added the first American pope.
“What particularly saddens me is the fact that Russia seems to have rejected the request for an armistice”he pointed out.
Pope Leo XIV is to celebrate his first Christmas Mass since his election on Wednesday evening, before saying the traditional blessing “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city of Rome and the world) on Thursday at noon, in which the sovereign pontiff usually provides an overview of global conflicts.
