Context

In early December, the illegitimate Russian President Vladimir Putin threatened to “expand the range” of Russian strikes against “port facilities and shipsentering Ukrainian ports.” “The most radical way,” he said, is to “cut off Ukraine from the sea.”

One of the most massive attacks on Odessa and the region of the Russian Federation was carried out on the night of December 13. A significant part of the region, including Odessa, was left without light, water and heat for a week. In the area of greatest destruction, the city of Artsyz suffered. As of December 18, according to Oleg Kiper, the head of the OVA, approximately 8.6 thousand people remained without electricity in part of Artsyz and in five other settlements.

Later, the invaders began to massively shell the bridge in Mayaki on the highway Odessa – Reni. Blocking traffic in this section made it impossible to travel to checkpoints and populated areas in the western part of the Odessa region. Traffic was later restored.
