The President of the Professional Football League (LPF) wants a 12-team championship amid the financial problems facing some clubs and has announced that licensing conditions will be changed.
Gino Iorgulescu stated in an interview for ProSport that he would like a championship with only 12 teams.
“We should make a championship with 12 teams. As you can see, there are not many teams, there are no stadiums, there are no conditions. And we will go to the licensing, put much tougher conditions so that they can work in League 1,” he said.
The head of the LPF believes that such a format would also benefit teams engaged in European cups, because there would be more data available to postpone SuperLiga matches when the schedule is busy.
“There is another problem! When European cups are played, we no longer have data to postpone some matches. If there were fewer teams, we would have enough data,” Iorgulescu added.
