Peter Magyar, the leader of the Tisza party, said that he is optimistic about the results of the parliamentary elections that took place on Sunday in Hungary.

“Hungarians have made history again,” said Peter Magyar in his speech after the polls closed.

“The attendance shows that more than six million Hungarians voted (…) The vast majority of Hungarians felt how important these elections are,” said leader Tisza, adding that “this is a celebration of democracy.

Peter Magyar avoided commenting on his party's score, saying only that he is optimistic about the official results that will come in the coming hours.

Magyar added that he had received thousands of reports of electoral fraud of varying severity and warned that after the change of government, those guilty of it would be held accountable.

Polls with conflicting results

Two pre-election polls show that the opposition party Tisza could win the election. Attention, these are not exit polls.

Tisza was supported by 55 percent of voters, compared to 38 percent for Prime Minister Viktor Orbán's ruling Fidesz party, according to a final poll by pollster 21 Research Center in the days leading up to Sunday's election.

According to the poll published by the Telex.hu news site, Tisza was expected to win 132 seats in the 199-seat Hungarian parliament. Mi Hazank 5% (Our Fatherland), from the extreme right, would have 5%.

According to another poll conducted by the Median Institute in the days leading up to Sunday's election, Tisza would win 135 seats in the 199-seat Hungarian parliament.

A think-tank aligned with the Fidesz party has a different analysis and says that the prime minister's party would have won the election.

Fidesz won 44.5 percent of the vote, while Tisza won 42 percent, according to a poll conducted by the Center for Fundamental Rights, a pro-government organization, and broadcast on the M1 channel. According to the poll, Mi Hazánk got 7%.

High level of attendance

More than 74.23% of voters voted by 5:00 p.m. (6:00 p.m. Romanian time), the Hungarian press announces. It is a new record set in Hungarian elections. They voted until 17:00 local time, two hours before the polls closed, more people than they did all day in previous elections.
