Minister Oana Ţoiu stated on Friday, on Antena 3, that the meeting of the President of Romania, Nicusor Dan, with the President of the USA, Donald Trump, will take place in the first part of 2026, showing that work is being done on several components, together with the team of the Presidential Administration and the team appointed from the USA for this.

Oana Ţoiu declared on Antena 3, about the Nicusor Dan-Donald Trump meeting, that it will take place in the first part of 2026.

“This was once again part of the meetings of the US delegation in Romania recently, we are working on several components, together with the team of the Presidential Administration and with the team appointed from the US for this. One of the components is obviously the economic one, because both presidents said very clearly, at the beginning of your mandates, that in terms of foreign policy the economic component is becoming absolutely essential, perhaps more than it was the case in the past”, said Ţoiu, quoted by News.ro.

The Foreign Minister stated that there is also a defense and security component.

“Here, in the last statement we had together at the end of the strategic dialogue for this year, it is also mentioned the good collaboration on the exchange of information, especially in terms of border protection, for example, and this is very important. The USA also resumed its decision in Romania, for example, to co-finance with new projects to combat human trafficking, and this again responds to the common agenda”, emphasized Oana Ţoiu.

The minister also stated that he completed, moreover, at the beginning of this week, the strategic dialogue that was throughout the whole year on the components of the strategic partnership, on the security and defense dimension, where this year they worked quite a lot together with the Ministries of the Economy and the Ministry of Defense and with the USA, in order to increase the opportunities regarding the co-production component.

“There is also an indirect motivation for the United States to move in this direction with us, because, at the moment, access to SAFE-type financing for military acquisitions is conditional on co-production on the territory of member states or states that are part of SAFE. In very practical terms, anything that can be bought from this source of financing can have a maximum of 35% of its components from outside the territories or states that participate in SAFE, which means that for the US, to together with Romania, for example, to produce more in Romania under these conditions, it also means access to an additional source of financing. And then there is also this very pragmatic element in our strategic partnership”, explained Ţoiu.
