The former president Traian Băsescu on Friday night categorized the Extraordinary Congress of the PSD, in which Sorin Grindeanu ran alone and was elected president of the social democrats, as “so disgusting”.
Băsescu initially refused to comment, in a show on B1 tv, on the way in which the PSD congress took place on Friday. Later, the former head of state categorized as “disgusting” the event attended by almost 3,000 delegates of the social-democratic formation.
“The PSD congress was so wrong… So, they didn't need 3,000 people, it was enough to bring fifty people because the president… had elections for six months, when Corlăţean resigned”, said the former president.
“So, what Congress, what elections? That's why I didn't want to comment on it”, said Traian Băsescu, quoted by News.ro.
Sorin Grindeanu officially became the new PSD president on Friday, after being voted in by 99.18% of the more than 3,000 delegates at the Romexpo congress. There were also eight abstentions and 15 votes against.
The team that Grindeanu proposes will be made up of five first vice-presidents and 20 vice-presidents, following the adoption of the motion “United for Romanians. Strong, only together” with which he ran.
The new general secretary of the party will be Claudiu Manda, the husband of the Mayor of Craiova, Lia Olguța Vasilescu.
The new first vice-presidents of PSD are: Bogdan Ivan, Victor Negrescu, Marius Oprescu, Ionuț Pucheanu and Corneliu Ștefan. Dragoș Benea – north-east, Francisk-Iulian Chiriac – south-east, Marius Dunca – center, Gabriela Firea – Bucharest-Ilfov, Adrian-Ionuț Gîdea – south, Laurențiu Nistor – west, Constantin Rădulescu – south-west and Gabriel Zetea – north-west were appointed vice-presidents by zone.
