VIDEO Grinch from Romania was caught and detained. He stole ornaments and destroyed festive decorations

“The “Grinch” of the festive decorations was caught by the police before Christmas”, the Bistrita-Năsăud County Police Inspectorate (IPJ) announced on Thursday evening.

According to an announcement published on the institution's Facebook page, a 23-year-old man from Beclean, suspected of aggravated theft and destruction, was detained for 24 hours by the policemen of the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Bistrita Police.

“Following the administered evidence, the police determined that on December 8 (2025), the 23-year-old man from Beclean entered the terrace of a restaurant in the municipality of Bistrița and stole several decorative and art objects. On the same date, the young man also destroyed the festive exterior decoration of a commercial company in the municipality,” stated the police from IPJ Bistrița-Năsăud, in a press release.

“Regarding the findings, the police officers of the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Bistrita Police ordered the detention of the 23-year-old for 24 hours. He was placed in the Detention and Preventive Arrest Center of the Bistrita-Năsăud County Police Inspectorate. The suspect is to be presented to the magistrates of the Prosecutor's Office attached to the Bistrita Court for analysis the opportunity to order a preventive measure”, the press release states.

The investigations are being continued by the police officers of the Criminal Investigation Bureau within the criminal file established, following the documentation of the entire criminal activity, the press release of the IPJ Bistrița-Năsăud also says.

According to the local publication Bistrițeanul, the young man arrested stole Christmas decorations from a closed terrace on Liviu Rebreanu Pedestrian Street and destroyed the decorations of another store in the area.

Also, Bistrițeanul.ro published, on Facebook, images of surveillance cameras in the area that capture the young man stealing the decorations.
