The Superliga automatically “voted” Gino Iorgulescu's revolutionary plan. The conclusion is CLEAR

The leaders of the Romanian Superliga reject in corpore the competitive system change evoked by Gino Iorgulescu. The head of the Professional League, to which the clubs they recently opened the corridor to a new mandate at the head of the forum that he has been leading since 2013, he brought up today the need to implement a system with 12 teams in Romania's first league. The clubs clearly reject this hypothesis and make a common front. Without exception, all clubs demarcate themselves from such a change.
Awaiting the last stage of the year, the landscape of the Superliga suddenly became animated on Thursday evening, after a surprising proposal made by Gino Iorgulescu, the acting president of the LPF. He put forward the version of a championship with 12 teams, that is, a drastic reduction of the current format, which brings together 16 clubs on the first stage.
It's just that, unlike the situation a month ago, when the Superliga bosses finally voted for the option for Gino to get a new mandate at the head of the League, unanimity now works in reverse. Up to this moment, the clubs that have expressed their position strongly reject the solution thought by Iorgulescu.
Contacted by GSP reporters, Gigi Becali and Victor Angelescu firmly declined the proposal. “I don't vote! FCSB does not agree. Who benefits from having fewer teams?”, said the landowner, supplemented by the Rapid shareholder: “It seems to me that the number is much too small, to decrease from 16 teams to 12 teams in a short time.”
A few moments ago, at Digi Sport, Iuliu Mureșan, the president of the CFR, had expressed his reluctance regarding such a change.
The newspaper also got in touch with some of the clubs outside the big leagues, and the opinion is the same. Representatives from Petrolul, Hermannstadt and UTA would not agree to a change of “constitution”:
Petrolul doesn't even want to hear about a 12-team system in the Superliga: “Are we going to end up playing with a few teams?”
Claudiu Tudor, the president of Petrol, expressed his position on the subject, assuring that the “yellow wolves” would not agree to such a system. The official of the “Gazars” once again emphasized the need for the authorities to finance all the clubs in the first league, a topic often addressed by the people of Ploiești.
“From my point of view, it is a wrong assumption. Everything should start from the infrastructure and from a law that allows multinationals to sponsor, but also a law by which all teams benefit from the support of the authorities, if we want to stop having problems and bring equality to Romanian football.
First, the infrastructure, where the authorities should provide training bases for children and junior centers. There must be equality: either all teams get help, or none. Everything starts from here.
Many teams that do not have the support of the authorities, like Petrol, are made to make efforts, to exceed their budget, to make much greater efforts than teams that are helped. We also want to keep up with teams like U Cluj, Slobozia, UTA Arad, Oțelul Galați, FC Argeş and we can go on endlessly.
He (No. Iorgulescu) it is talking about 12 teams, but if the authorities withdraw their support, League 2 would cease to exist. Out of 20 teams, 16-17 are held by the authorities. Corvin would not exist if it were not for the authorities.
Here we should see what we do, with the infrastructure or the children, not that there are 12 or 16 teams. We would certainly not agree, the problems are elsewhere, not how many teams we have! Are we going to get to play a few teams?! If we went from 20 to 16, now 12… We will reach 8. Cities need sports and teams in the first league”, Claudiu Tudor told GSP.ro.

Hermannstadt isn't happy either: “That's not how performance increases”
Called by GSP, Claudiu Rotar, the main shareholder from Hermannstadt, also rejected Gino's proposal:
“This year is definitely not possible, maybe in two years it will be an option. But I don't think performance can be increased by this measure. It was also 14, then it became 16, it depends for whom it is wanted… No, I wouldn't vote for this system with 12, I wouldn't want to”, commented the man at the head of the Sibiu.
UTA, strong on positions: “The transition would be very difficult, the country is too big for a championship with 12 teams”
Finally, the site also got in touch with Alexandru Meszar, the boss at UTA. What does this one say?
The leader of the “Old Lady” admits that so far he has not thought of such a scenario and is of the opinion that the transition from 16 to 12 teams in a single competitive year would be a complicated one.
“We have to see what the advantages and disadvantages are. But I can say from the start that the transition from 16 to 12 teams will be a very difficult one. You cannot do it in one step. It would mean not promoting any team from League 2. Or relegating 6 and promoting two. It is very complicated.
Such a change must be announced at least one year in advance, the regulation must be made. It is not a matter of the near future. And we cannot say that there is no competitiveness this season. There are not that many points between 2nd and 10th place.
And there is something else. We are too big a country for a 12-team championship. Yes, there are such championships, but from smaller countries. I agree, however, that we do not have the best conditions everywhere. There are stadiums with problems, and you have to walk there”, said Alexandru Meszar.
Microbists want 18!
At the time of writing, over 3,400 microbists had voted in the poll initiated by GSP regarding the ideal system for League 1. 44% of respondents would like an 18-team championship!
However, even the “Iorgulescu variant” is not completely rejected by the fans. 25% of those who took part in the “scrutiny” believe that it would be beneficial for the Superliga to have only 20 teams.
- The current system, one with play-off / play-out, brings to the start 16 teams that play in a round-robin format in the regular season
- At the end of the regular season, the points are halved, and the top 6 teams enter the play-off for the fight for the title, and 10 teams enter the play-out for the fight to avoid relegation.
- At the end of the play-out, the last two teams are relegated directly, and the next two go to the play-offs. The first echelon of Romania has 16 teams from the 2020-2021 season at the start.
What Gino Iorgulescu said: “We should make a championship with 12 teams”
We should do a 12-team championship. As you can see, there are not many teams, there are no stadiums, there are no conditions. And we're going to go to licensing, to set much tougher conditions so that it can work in League 1.
There's another problem! When they play in European cups, we no longer have data to postpone some matches. If there were fewer teams, we would have enough data.
If we put on paper and are bright to perform as well, they should accept a 12-team championship. It would also finish the play-off and play-out at the same time and the values are also focused. The money is divided among fewer teams and there is more for each. And they can take more valuable players”, said the head of the LPF
