Bundestag approves record budget. Billions for army modernization


As part of the budget of the Ministry of Defense and a special fund, the Bundeswehr will purchase new clothing and personal equipment for a total of 460,000. soldiers, as well as protection measures for up to 80,000. civilian employees of the German army.

The Bundeswehr will be reinforced in the air and at sea among others by expanding the Arrow anti-missile defense system with missiles, purchasing IRIS-T SLM guided missiles, Meteor air combat missiles and torpedoes for the new class of type 212 CD submarines.

In 2025, the Bundestag created a special fund of EUR 100 billion for the modernization of the German army, financed by loans. It was a response to the need for rapid modernization and the purchase of military equipment outside the regular budget.
