The former candidate for the presidential elections, Călin Georgescu, arrived on Wednesday morning at the Bucharest Court, where he is awaiting a verdict regarding the preventive measure ordered in his first file regarding legionary propaganda.

Today, the magistrates are judging Georgescu's appeal against the decision taken by the 1st District Court, which rejected the request for revocation.

The decision of the magistrates at the Bucharest Court on Wednesday will be final

The same judge who extended the judicial review for 60 days, Alexandru Bărbulescu, ordered the start of the trial on the merits of the file in which he is accused of legionary propaganda.

Georgescu went to the court accompanied by a lawyer while dozens of supporters were waiting for him shouting “Justice, not corruption!”, according to the images broadcast by Realitatea TV.

Călin Georgescu was sent to court on July 2 by the General Prosecutor's Office, being accused of promoting in public the cult of persons guilty of crimes of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes, as well as of promoting in public fascist, legionary, racist or xenophobic ideas, conceptions or doctrines, in a continuous form (five material acts).

The investigators note in the indictment that, between June 16, 2020 and May 16, 2025, repeatedly (June 16, 2020, September 2020, October 2, 2021, September 1, 2024 and May 16, 2025), Călin Georgescu promoted in public, through various means, fascist, legionary and xenophobic ideas, conceptions and doctrines.

“Specifically, it was noted that the defendant has affirmed over time, in interviews, statements or postings in the online environment, his pro-legionary ideological consistency/connections in the neo-legionary environment with promoters of the neo-legionary ideology, with the aim of producing a change of perception regarding the historical framing of the Legionary Movement in an attempt to normalize and revitalize legionaryism and the historical figures connected to it ideologies, in the sense that he made several eulogizing/laudatory statements to Corneliu Zelea Codreanu, Ion Antonescu, Ion Moța”, the prosecutors argued.
