Canadian airline Air Canada said Monday it had suspended all flights to Cuba due to continuing fuel shortages on the Caribbean island caused by pressure from the United States.

“Over the next few days, our airline will operate empty one-way flights to pick up approximately 3,000 of our customers in Cuba and bring them home,” Air Canada said in a statement.
Earlier, Cuban authorities informed airlines flying to Cuba that, starting from midnight Monday to Tuesday, refueling aircraft with aviation fuel (kerosene) would be suspended for a month due to the energy crisis in that country.
Cuba is experiencing an unprecedented fuel supply crisis after Venezuela suspended oil supplies under US pressure. Washington is also threatening to impose high tariffs on countries that would sell fuel to Cuba. (PAP)
