VIDEO From Bucharest to Adjud on 250 kilometers of highway, before Christmas. Anti-timer works on the Moldovei Highway

After the only missing piece of highway on the Bucharest – Focșani route was inaugurated at the end of November, a new section of highway in Moldova will be inaugurated by Christmas, according to HotNews sources.

The section of the A7 highway from Focșani to Adjud, about 53 kilometers, will most likely be opened to traffic next week, before Christmas, several sources from the Ministry of Transport told HotNews.

Previously, at the beginning of December, CNAIR representatives confirmed to HotNews that the intention of the authorities and the builder is to complete before the end of the year, but that everything depends on the weather.

In the last two weeks, however, the weather has been favorable for the works, and the UMB builder is intensively mobilized at the critical points. HotNews sources say that a lot of work has been done in the area of bridges, with a bridge at Tișita over the DN2L almost completed from scratch, which did not even exist a month ago (minute 2:30 in the video clip below). There, work stalled for a long time because the high-voltage lines could not be relocated.

“We are now working on the last elements, in a few days it will be ready for traffic”

At the same time, a lot of work was done on the waterproofing and asphalting of the very long bridges on the route, as well as at the road junction north of Adjud, where a roundabout was practically created for the highway to pass under.

“Now the constructor is working on the last elements related to asphalting, expansion joints and in parallel the final finishing touches are being made, parapets are being installed and markings are being drawn. In a few days it will be ready for traffic, and other related works not related to the road side will be completed later”, a source from the ministry explained to HotNews.

As for the continuation of the A7 from Adjud, the piece up to the Răcăciuni road junction will be ready by April, and the rest up to the A7-Centura Bacăului will be ready a few months later, say the cited sources.

250 kilometers of uninterrupted highway, from Bucharest to Adjud

The 53-kilometer section that will be open to traffic is, in fact, two different sections. The first 35.6 km are part of Section 1 Focșani – Bacău, and the next 17 km to Adjud Nord are part of Section 2.

Once opened to traffic, the two sections would connect Adjudul to Bucharest on the highway, offering drivers almost 250 km uninterrupted from the A7 and A3.

Currently, about 145 kilometers of the A7 are open from Focșani to Dumbrava, the intersection with the A3, and from there to Bucharest there are still about 46 km to the Pipera-Petricani area.

“Rare of mediocre quality”

Ionuț Ciurea from Asociația Pro Infrastructura, one of the most active civic organizations in the field of transport, told HotNews that “this hei-rup” of the builder at the end of the year could come with quality problems.

“It will be at the limit, most likely the same as in other years at the end of the year, with shortages, with the risk of having a mediocre quality and works left to be done,” says Ciurea.

He also drew attention to the fact that, in November 2025, according to the contractual terms, the A7 built by UMB should have been ready up to Pașcani, i.e. all the remaining sections to be built and which the authorities are now giving ready only the following year.

A7 or The “backbone” of Moldova

The A7 “Moldovei” highway is a high-speed road of almost 450 km from Ploiesti to Siret, the border with Ukraine. The A7 highway is in various stages of implementation: 145 km in use, 190 km in work and almost 115 km in tender, out of the total of about 450 km Ploiești – Siret.

It is also called the “backbone” of the road infrastructure for Moldova because it crosses the region from North to South, connecting it with Muntenia and going to take over all heavy and transit traffic on DN2 (E85), one of the most congested and dangerous national roads in the country.

From the A7, about 145 kilometers have been opened so far, the entire section Ploiești (A3/Dumbrava) – Buzău (63 km) and the entire section Buzău – Focșani Nord (82 km).

From Focșani to Bacău, at least two other sections (about 53 km) are expected to open this year, while the last section to Bacău and three other sections from Bacău to Pașcani are scheduled for completion, with a delay, only next year.

Of the 14 lots contracted so far on the A7, 11 are signed with UMB (5 completed sections), all in the Moldova region.

Two other sections, from Pașcani to Suceava, are assigned to UMB, but the contracts have not yet been signed. Practically, from Buzău to Pașcani and further towards Suceava, the entire A7 is or will be built by the companies belonging to Dorinel Umbrărescu's UMB. For this reason it is also nicknamed “Umbrărescu Highway”.
