Zelensky on the meetings in Berlin: If they had taken place earlier, progress would have been even greater
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky commented on the talks.
“It is very important that our partners from the United States of America heard all the details about the war. If these meetings had been held earlier, progress would have been even greater,” he wrote on X. “Nevertheless, I am grateful that we have worked really well together. There are some issues that, in my opinion, are destructive and certainly will not help us. It is important that they no longer appear in new versions of the documents. This matters because dignity matters,” he added.
“Of course, we have different positions towards Russia on the issue of territories,” Zelensky emphasized. “This should be recognized and openly discussed. I believe that the American side, acting as a mediator, will propose various steps to try to find at least some form of consensus. We will do everything possible to find clear answers to questions about security guarantees, territories and financial resources as compensation for Ukraine for reconstruction,” he added.
The President of Ukraine pointed out that the talks also concern security guarantees. “And before any steps are taken on the battlefield, both the military and the civilian population must have a clear understanding of what these security guarantees will be. This is very important,” Zelensky emphasized. “We are currently working on putting it all on paper and we can see the progress. The details developed by the military part look quite solid, even though this is only the first project,” he added.
