Greenlanders sang their national anthem, carried Greenlandic flags and played traditional drums. Many carried homemade banners with the words: “We are not for sale” or “America, stay away from us.” Caricatures of US President Donald Trump could be seen.

The Prime Minister of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen, also took part in the demonstration and addressed the crowd.

According to reports by the Greenlandic public broadcaster KNR, the procession was several hundred meters long and resembled last year's demonstration on the same issue, considered one of the largest in the history of Greenland. Nuuk is only over 19,000 years old. inhabitants.

On Saturday, similar demonstrations were also held in other towns in Greenland.

On the same day, in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen, in the early afternoon, thousands of people expressed their disapproval of President Trump's announcement of the need to take over the island. The crowd filled the large square in front of the City Hall and then went to the US Embassy. On the same day, demonstrations also took place in other Danish cities – Aarhus, Aalborg and Odense.

Trump has repeatedly spoken about the need for the United States to take over Greenland, and at the beginning of the year he intensified his rhetoric. He recently speculated that if the US does not take control of Greenland, China or Russia will do so.
