In Russia, there is an increase in the incidence of Hong Kong flu, which is called “superflu”. Virologist and doctor of medical sciences Svetlana Protasova shared in a conversation with aif.ru(18+) the main signs of the disease and gave recommendations for the prevention of this dangerous flu.
According to the virologist, a distinctive feature of this flu is its high ability to mutate. It spreads much faster than previous flu variants. Experts emphasize that the Hong Kong flu has certain similarities with the notorious COVID-19.
Main symptoms of Hong Kong flu
- A sharp increase in body temperature to 38.5-40 degrees, which is difficult to reduce;
- Muscle and joint pain;
- Painful sensations when moving the eyes;
- Marked weakness;
- Dry cough;
- Sore throat, often accompanied by nasal congestion.
- The doctor added that some patients, especially children, may experience nausea and diarrhea.
The condition when infected with Hong Kong flu worsens very quickly, literally within a few hours.
“The peculiarities of this flu are that symptoms can appear within 1-2 days after infection. It is also characterized by intense intoxication, manifested by a sharp deterioration in well-being,” the doctor explained.
The specialist emphasized that at the first signs of the disease it is necessary to seek medical help.
“It is not recommended to lower the temperature below 38.5 degrees, because this is a protective reaction of the body, with which the immune system destroys viruses faster,” she added.
How to protect yourself from Hong Kong flu
Maintaining good personal hygiene will help prevent the spread of the new “superflu.” The doctor noted that to protect against the Hong Kong flu, it is necessary to avoid crowded places and use masks in public places. It is also important to wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizers. As for vaccines, there are currently no effective vaccines, as they cannot keep up with the rapidly mutating virus.
