The new S1 expressway in Poland. Opening on December 19, information for drivers

Minister of Infrastructure Dariusz Klimczak will visit the construction of the new section of S1 in the company of local authorities and representatives of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways. According to the bielsko-biala.pl portal, the minister's visit will take place on December 18, and a day later the new road will be formally opened to drivers.

The S1 expressway is one of the most important communication routes in southern Poland. It connects Bielsko-Biała with Oświęcim, and in the future it is to become part of a larger network of roads leading to Slovakia and towards Krakow. The new section will relieve traffic congestion on national road No. 1, which will significantly improve travel comfort and shorten travel time.

The new section of S1 covers the route from Hałcnów to Dankowice and the missing section from Brzeszcze to Dankowice. In total, it is 12 kilometers of road, the construction of which is already 98% completed.
Work on engineering structures is almost completed, and road works have reached 89 percent. advancement. The Hałcnów junction in Bielsko-Biała will become one of the key communication points in the region, connecting S1 with the S52 route towards Cieszyn.

Originally, the section was to be ready in the fourth quarter of 2023, but problems related to the preparation of the investment, including: environmental and mining issues, as well as difficult weather conditions, delayed the work.
Nevertheless, investors and contractors hope for a quick completion of the construction, although – as bielsko-biala.pl reminds – another section from Oświęcim to Bieruń is not on the list of roads planned to be opened this year.

As the “Local Government Portal” explains, the S1 expressway from Bielsko-Biała to Mysłowice is of great importance for the region. After completion of all works, the route will be over 133 km long and will be entirely managed by GDDKiA.
Its extension to the south is the Slovak D3 motorway. Further investments are planned in the future, such as the Beskidzka Road Integracyjna, which will connect S1 with Krakow.

On December 12, GDDKiA itself announced the completion of another investment on the S1 expressway. Another 1.6 km long section of the Oświęcim bypass, i.e. the bridge over Soła, was opened.
This is a key section of the investment for the city's residents, connecting the two banks of the Soła River and the street running along both banks. Legionów and Jagiełło. Oświęcim will gain a third bridge over this river, which will greatly facilitate movement between the two parts of the city.
