The lawyer who allegedly facilitated drug trafficking in prisons was arrested preventively, along with eight other suspects

Following the 33 searches carried out on Wednesday in Cluj, Bistrița-Năsăud and Mureș, the lawyer who would have facilitated drug trafficking in penitentiaries was pre-arrested, along with eight other suspects.

On Thursday, December 4, DIICOT announced that the lawyer suspected of facilitating drug trafficking in prisons was pre-arrested, together with eight other members of a network that imported banned substances from Italy, Spain and the Netherlands.
The group would have distributed the drugs both in Cluj-Napoca and in two penitentiaries, the lawyer having, according to the investigators, the role of transmitting confidential information and facilitating the connection between the suspects and the inmates.
The arrests took place following the 33 searches carried out on Wednesday, December 3, in the counties of Cluj, Bistrița-Năsăud and Mureș, including in two detention units, as part of an operation coordinated by DIICOT prosecutors – Cluj Territorial Service, the policemen of the Cluj-Napoca Organized Crime Brigade and Europol.
“Following the 33 searches carried out yesterday, December 3, by the policemen of the Cluj-Napoca Organized Crime Brigade, together with the DIICOT prosecutors – Cluj Territorial Service, in a case with the purpose of committing the crimes of international high-risk and high-risk drug trafficking, high-risk and high-risk drug trafficking, unlawfully carrying out operations with products likely to have psychoactive effects, money laundering, to an organized criminal group, misleading the judicial bodies, non-compliance with the weapons and ammunition regime and favoring the perpetrator, 9 people (eight men and one woman having the capacity of a lawyer) were detained”, the Romanian Police sent.
Following the busts, investigators seized quantities of high-risk and high-risk drugs, including cannabis resin, amphetamine, 2-CMC, 4-CMC, 4-BMC and tramadol tablets. Also at that time, grinders, electronic scales, self-sealing envelopes, data storage devices, documents, bank cards, an anti-stabbing vest, approximately 70,000 lei and 7,000 euros were confiscated. A luxury car was impounded.
“Today, December 4th, the judge of rights and liberties of the Cluj Court of Appeal was notified with the proposal of the preventive arrest of the 9 persons (three under custodial measures in other cases). Also, the arrest in absentia of five persons, who are evading criminal prosecution, was requested. In relation to two persons under investigation, the DIICOT prosecutors took the measure of judicial control”. stated in a DIICOT press release.
