President Nicușor Dan declared that he sees “no reason to break up” the coalition made up of PSD, PNL, USR and UDMR, despite the information he reads “every day in the press”. The head of state said that he was grateful to the parties that assumed government even though “it was clear that there were going to be cuts, so people's lives would be affected” and “the easiest thing” would have been for them to stay in opposition.
In Saturday night's edition of the “40 questions with Denise Rifai” show, the president was asked, among other things, whether the governing coalition is still “breaking.”
“I read this in the press every day, but, knowing the reality up close, I don't see any reason to break this coalition”, answered Nicușor Dan.
The president said the coalition parties had assumed government at a time when it would have been “simplest” for them to sit in opposition.
“For each of the parties, it was clear that there would be cuts, so people's lives would be affected, and, in this context, the simplest thing for each of them would have been to stay in the opposition (…). They all chose to form a coalition, I publicly thanked them several times for that. By the fact that this coalition exists, the image of Romania, which was affected after some canceled elections, with a deficit that went to 10% (…), so in these conditions, each of the parties in the coalition assumed”, added the head of state.
Nicușor Dan believes that despite the exchange of words between the governing parties, there is “no reason” for breaking the coalition.
“It is inevitable that people will not say something to each other, the others will respond, but, all in all, this coalition at the moment has no reason to break up, and in none of the moments that the media treated very emotionally, I have not seen that. Each of the parties in the coalition pursues an interest, let's call it, national, which we all have”, he also declared.
