“They hate Europe.” USA like United Fruit Company?

The new US National Security Strategy is simply a program for changing the political system in Europe, taking into account the interests of the oligarchs from Silicon Valley – wrote economist and Nobel Prize winner Paul Krugman on his blog in the text entitled “Is this the end of the free world?”

In his opinion, the new National Security Strategy is a unclear, fluid and internally contradictory document, but surprisingly clear in relation to Europe.. “Trump and those around him simply hate Europe. And they hate it because it still honors the ideals they reject in America,” says Krugman, who also emphasizes that “the language of this document is astonishing” and its authors threaten that Europe will face a civilizational collapse.
The Nobel Prize winner quotes the American political scientist Henry Farrell, who stated that the administration of President Donald Trump in its National Security Strategy “explicitly contains a program for changing the political system in Europe, aimed at transforming it, in cooperation with the European far right, into an illiberal system and creating an ideological wedge in Eastern Europe aimed at its Western neighbors.”
The European priorities of the Strategy include “supporting the construction of healthy nations in Central, Eastern and Southern Europe through trade links, arms sales, political cooperation and cultural and educational exchanges.”
“In adopting such a course of the USA towards the European Union, an important role was played by billionaires from Silicon Valley, who in practice became tough autocrats, having a colossal influence on the Trump administration.” – explains Krugman.
He adds that American tech oligarchs hate the EU for trying to limit the “expansionary agenda” of Big Tech and protect EU citizens. against the risks posed by social media platforms.
Elon Musk announced that the EU should be abolished and threatened retaliation against – as he put it – “Stasi commissioners” responsible for the decision to impose a penalty on Platform X for ignoring European regulations. And the Trump administration is acting as an arm of Big Tech, scolding Europe for its regulations, the author says.
The part of the Strategy that concerns Ukraine, together with the recently presented American peace plan for this country, takes into account Russia's “wish list”. It is also a clear message to the US's “former allies” that they cannot count on American help in the event of aggression from Russia. Therefore, “we should not be surprised that some allies have recently begun to refuse to share intelligence information,” the Nobel laureate concludes.
“In a very real way “The tech oligarchy is trying to use the power of the US government to subjugate the EU in the same way that the United Fruit Company used the power of the US government to subjugate Central America.” – warns the author.
He also estimates that the new US National Security Strategy actually “guarantees that China will defeat the US in the competition for influence and economic hegemony.”
Since the Trump administration treats Europe and Canada as enemies rather than allies, the US is de facto losing the ability to compete with China within the “free world” bloc, he explains.
The new US National Security Strategy says that European Union actions undermine political, civil liberties and sovereignty, and US diplomacy aims to promote “true democracy” in Europefreedom of speech, the individual character of states and European “patriotic parties”. One of the greatest threats was the erosion of national identities and the “civilizational erasure” of European countries due to immigration.
“In the long term, it is more than likely that within a few decades at the latest, some NATO members will become predominantly non-European states.”. Therefore, the question remains whether they will perceive their place in the world or their alliance with the United States in the same way as those who signed the NATO Treaty,” wrote the authors of the strategy.
Krugman sees this as a veiled warning that Europe will no longer be “white” and believes that Washington's new position towards the EU is “preferring white supremacy” over the true greatness of America. (PAP)
