According to the data of the Chinese General Customs Administration, In August this year 2.7 million tons of oil from Indonesia came to China, which corresponds to about 630 thousand. barrels a day. A threefold increase in imports compared to the previous month was also recorded in July.

As Bloomberg points out, this amount is significantly greater than the average Indonesian production, which is lasting last year. 580 thousand Baryłek a day, most of which are consumed on the internal market.

Bloomberg reminds you that China, officially not filling oil from Iran from mid -2022, bought more oil from Malaysia than this country is able to produce. In the last two months, delivery from Malaysia – used for re -export and hiding real origin of loads – has dropped by over 30 percent, which is to indicate a change in tactics.

The mechanism used according to Bloomberg by China consists in the transhipment of “side to side” in international waters near Malaysia and Indonesia. Tankowce receives Iranian oil, after which its origin changes to Indonesian.

Satellite data shows that tankers such as Aquaris, Yuhan, Pola and Pix reported a wrap to the Indonesian port of Kabil, which has no export infrastructure, and then discharged loads in Chinese ports, including in Qingdao and Dalian.

“This is only part of the continuous evolution of the tactics of operators who hide what they do,” commented Charlie Brown, an advisor at the United Against Nuclear Iran. “The basic trade scheme remains the same,” he added.

This practice – as Bloomberg notes – provides Beijing with access to cheap raw material, because Iran, like Russia, be under sanctions, offers oil at much lower prices.

The US sanctions for the Iranian oil sector are aimed at limiting the government's income in Tehran enabling the development of a nuclear program and supporting terrorism.

Beijing customs data shows that in 2024 China brought a record 108.5 million tons of oil from Russia, which corresponded to almost 2.17 million barrels a day. By increasing the purchases of Russian oil, China helps Russia to maintain income that largely finance its military operations in Ukraine.
