The march was previously banned by the police on the basis of an amendment to the Act on Assemblies adopted in March by the Hungarian Parliament, which in practice outlaws equality parades.
Despite this, Karacsony assured before June 28 that the parade would take place because it was an urban event. In his opinion, such a category does not require the consent of central authorities. After the event, the Budapest Police Headquarters announced that No legal action will be taken against the march participants, but an investigation will be launched against its organizers.
