The initiative to introduce compulsory service for graduates of pedagogical universities can help solve the personnel shortage in schools and create a new generation of motivated teachers. This opinion was expressed in an interview with sibnovosti.ru by the director of the Institute of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics of the Krasnoyarsk State Pedagogical University, Maria Cave.

Earlier, the head of the State Duma Committee on Defense Andrei Kartapolov announced the possible introduction of such a norm, proposing to extend to teachers a scheme similar to that recently approved for graduates of medical universities.

According to Maria Cave, the first three years of work at school are key for professional development.

“The young teacher gains real-life experience, gets to know the school from the inside and understands in practice the power and meaning of his work. Over the course of three years, many discover unexpectedly bright sides of the teaching profession – from the lively energy of students to the feeling of influencing the future,” the teacher noted.

She believes that such a measure can not only close the personnel shortage, but also create a generation of teachers who come to schools consciously and for a long time. In her opinion, compulsory service will help graduates take a more responsible approach to choosing a profession and gain a foothold in it after receiving a diploma.
