Ukraine launched a massive drone attack on Russia overnight Wednesday into Thursday, with dozens of them striking the capital Moscow, according to Russian authorities.

The Russian Defense Ministry said Thursday morning that its anti-aircraft forces shot down 287 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 40 over the Moscow region.

According to the Kyiv Post, more than 300 drones were launched into Russia, where authorities warned of the attack. The Ukrainian publication also published a map of drone launch directions made by the Telegram account Dronbomber, which it says used information from Russian sources.

The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, wrote on Telegram that the drones in the region of the Russian capital were shot down in a period of about 3 and a half hours. He did not give any information about any damage or injuries.

Rosaviatsia, Russia's civil aviation authority, announced that operations were suspended at all airports in the Moscow area, according to Reuters.

Pulkovo Airport in St. Petersburg, Russia's second-largest city, said on Telegram that it was dealing with diverted flights from the capital.

Several airports in central Russia also suspended landings and takeoffs.

The Russian Defense Ministry, which usually only announces the downed drones, not how many hit their targets, said it intercepted 118 drones in Bryansk region, 40 in Kaluga, 40 in Moscow region, of which 32 were heading for the capital itself, 27 in Tula, 19 in Novgorod, 11 in Yaroslavl, 10 in Lipetsk, 6 in Smolensk, 5 each in Kursk and Orel regions, 4 in Voronezh and 2 in Ryazan region.

One of the Ukrainian attacks targeted Veliky Novgorod, where the Acron chemical complex is located. Unverified images posted on social media suggest that there have been successful strikes on the facility that produces both fertilizers and dual-use products.
