During the committee meeting in the European Parliament, Kallas referred to an American document that presents Europe as a region on the verge of “civilizational decay.” In her opinion, this strategy is intended to provoke the European Union into reacting. However, she emphasized that responding to such allegations would be “absurd” because it would mean accepting untrue theses.

Kallas noted that basic freedoms such as opposition, free media and political opposition activities are prohibited in Russia. She also pointed to the ban on the functioning of the X platform (formerly Twitter) in its known form. In her opinion, it is in Russia, and not in Europe, that we should look for examples of limiting freedom.
During her speech, the head of EU diplomacy also raised the issue of peace negotiations regarding Ukraine. She criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin for trying to portray Europe as an obstacle to peace. “This war is being fought on European soil, so how it ends is of crucial importance to Europeans.” – she emphasized.

The EU pays attention to Russian disinformation
Kallas also drew attention to growing Russian disinformation campaigns, which are currently focused on Armenia, where parliamentary elections will be held in 2026. She recalled that this year the main target of Russian disinformation activities was Moldova. However, she pointed out that the example of this country shows that it is possible to effectively oppose the Russian information war. The pro-European Action and Solidarity Party (PAS), associated with President Maia Sandu, won the September parliamentary elections in Moldova.
Kallas emphasized that Europe should be more confident in its relations with Russia, China and sometimes even with allies such as the United States. “US security strategy sends a clear signal that we should act decisively.” – she assessed.
