Ukraine and its European partners will soon be ready to present to the United States “revised documents” on the peace plan to end the war with Russia, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Tuesday, after several days of intense diplomacy, writes Reuters.

Kiev is under pressure from the White House to reach a quick peace, but rejects the US-backed plan proposed last month, which is widely seen as favorable to Moscow.

Ukrainian officials are also demanding strong security guarantees from partners, should a deal be struck, that would prevent Russia from attacking again in the future.

In a statement, Zelenski said that the new components of the agreement negotiated in London on Monday with the leaders of Britain, France and Germany (Keir Starmer, Emmanuel Macron and Friedrich Merz) are “further developed” and ready to be analyzed by the US.

“The Ukrainian and European components are now more developed and we are ready to present them to our US partners,” he wrote in a message published on the X social network. “Together with the American side, we expect to quickly make potential steps as feasible as possible.

Zelenski's full announcement:

  • Today, I have already discussed with our team of negotiators the results of yesterday's efforts in London, which took place at the level of the national security advisers of our European partners. This was agreed yesterday at the level of leaders.
  • We are working very actively on all components of potential measures to end the war. The Ukrainian and European components are now more developed and we are ready to introduce them to our US partners. Together with the American side, we expect to quickly make potential steps as feasible as possible.
  • We are committed to achieving real peace and remain in constant contact with the United States. And, as our partners in the negotiating teams rightly note, it all depends on Russia's willingness to take effective steps to stop the bloodshed and prevent a rekindling of war. In the near future, we will be ready to send the revised documents to the United States. Glory to Ukraine!

“Closer to a peace agreement”

Finnish President Alexander Stubb announced on Tuesday that the allies were working on three separate documents, including a 20-point framework, a set of security guarantees and a reconstruction plan.

“I think we are closer to a peace agreement than we have ever been since the beginning of the war,” he said at an event in Helsinki.

Stubb made the remarks as US President Donald Trump put fresh pressure on Zelenskiy to strike a deal that could involve painful concessions, citing Moscow's “advantage” as Russia's military advances on the battlefield.

Among other demands, Russian President Vladimir Putin has said that Ukraine must cede the entire Donbas region in the country's east before Russia ends the fighting, which Zelenskiy has consistently rejected.

The Russians “are much bigger. They're much stronger in this,” Trump said in an interview with Politico.

The White House leader added that Zelenskiy “will have to get down to business and start… accepting things.”
