“The president took note of the resignation of the position of Prime Minister of the Government of Romania, submitted this evening by Marcel Ciolacu. An interim prime minister will be appointed in the first part of tomorrow,” the Presidential Administration said on Monday.
“The PNL has a ministers who have taken oath in the government. They will exercise their duties. PNL has members who swore in the Romanians' interests. As long as these mandates are in office, PNL is doing their duty,” said the interim president of PNL on Monday Cătălin Predoiu.
The PSD leadership decided not to publicly support any of the two candidates in the second round. “Each sympathizer will vote according to his own conscience,” said Ciolacu.
“This coalition is no longer legitimate as long as it has not sent its candidate in round 2,” Ciolacu explained the PSD exit from the government, adding that as long as he will run the party “there will be no PSD-gold”.
The PSD ministers will remain interim, until the installation of a new government, according to hotnews.ro sources. Ilie Bolojan will designate, by presidential decree, a minister as an interim prime minister, until the formation of the new government. The interim period can take at most 45 days, during which a new government must be formed.
The interim government can only issue documents regarding the administration of public affairs, until the oath of the members of the new executive.
