If Poles surveyed received PLN 5,000 for Christmas, PLN, they would most like to spend it on a Christmas trip – according to the study “Finance and Christmas”. At the same time, four out of ten respondents declared that a free Christmas Eve would not affect their Christmas plans.

The authors of the study pointed out that this year, for the first time, Christmas Eve will be a day off from work.

According to 39 percent of respondents, the free Christmas Eve will not affect their Christmas plans. Every fifth person thinks that this will reduce the rush and stress associated with preparations (20 percent of responses), and another 20 percent he expects to spend more time with his family. 16 percent indicated more time to prepare holiday dishes.

The respondents were asked what they would spend PLN 5,000 on. PLN if they received such an amount as a gift. Most people (20%) answered that they would spend it on a holiday trip during the holiday season. Respondents would also spend money on expenses related to home renovation (12 percent); as well as to take care of their health and purchase electronic equipment and household appliances (8% each). Every seventh person would use the extra cash to overpay a loan (8%) or repay debts (7%).

Going on holiday is one of the most common motivations for saving in the coming year – indicated by 29%. people. The only thing higher in respondents' preferences is saving for a broadly understood “rainy day” (44%). Respondents also indicated renovating a house or apartment (20 percent) or purchasing it (12 percent) and saving for retirement (16 percent).

The “Finance and Christmas” study was carried out by the research company Maison&Partners, using the CAWI method, in November 2025 on a representative sample of 1,060 Polish women and men, commissioned by ANG Responsible Finance.
