The most popular and rare names for newborns were named in the Krasnoyarsk Territory


The official portal of the state registry office has published information about the most popular and rare names for newborns in the Krasnoyarsk Territory.

In 2025, the most popular name for a boy was Mikhail (445 registrations), followed by Alexander (426), followed by Artem (413), Matvey (345) and Lev (288). The rarest names were: Yakuvbjon, Ivan Di, Abdrazak, Abduvokhid, Norayr.

The most popular name for girls was the name Sofia (398 registrations), in second place was Eva (314), in third place was Varvara (312), then Anna (291) and Maria (272). The rarest names were: Ustina, Aksenia, Narine, Tavkhida, Mehrab.

Let us note that the name Sofia has held the championship in the region for several years; it became the most popular in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024.

In Russia the situation is slightly different. Among male names, the leader is Mikhail (20,280 registrations), followed by Alexander (18,221), after Artyom (16,017), Matvey (13,731) and Timofey (12,500). Among women, Sofia is in first place (17,534 registrations), Eva is in second (15,325), Anna is in third (14,431), followed by Maria (12,778) and Varvara (12,557).

The rarest names for boys: Le Duong, Mubaris, Muhammad-David, Yakub-Said, Purvya. For girls: Zevara, Gulchi, Rufiyat, Tuymaada, Aulia.

Let us recall that in the Russian Federation the rules for choosing a child’s first and last name are enshrined in the Family Code. For example, it states that in a child’s name you cannot use:

  • numbers;
  • alphanumeric designations;
  • numerals;
  • symbols;
  • characters that are not letters, except for the hyphen;
  • swear words;
  • indications of ranks, positions, titles.

Since 2023, a name generator for the unborn child has appeared on the state registry office website. The service generates options based on unique names that have been collected into a single database.

Improving the quality of life of Russian families with children and supporting the birth rate in the country are the goals of the national project “Family”, which has been operating in Russia since 2025. Financial and infrastructure projects will help in the main goal that the state sets for itself – strengthening the value of the traditional family in Russia.
