According to her, the guy bought a smartphone for 64 thousand UAH; he didn’t check it in the store because he bought it a few days before as a gift for his girlfriend’s birthday.
Toldinova said that at 0.00 she opened the iPhone box, and the phone inside was covered in scratches, would not turn on, and there was no charging cable in the box.
The next day the couple went to the store where the purchase was made.
“The sellers checked something there for a couple of hours, thought about it, and now they told us that it’s not an iPhone. It’s a dummy, and they will check because they think that we may have changed it,” Toldinova said.
She also posted a video of what she claimed was a “dummy” and a few days later she addedthat store representatives contacted the guy.
The couple was offered either a refund or a new iPhone. They chose money.
The official MOYO account on the Threads social network explainedthat the store is an official partner of the Apple distributor in Ukraine. Representatives of the network admitted that the box actually contained a dummy iPhone in its original packaging, but the substitution occurred upon delivery of the goods.
“MOYO and our employees have nothing to do with this fraudulent scheme. We also became victims of it,” the store explained.
The report states that the client has been fully reimbursed and an internal investigation is ongoing.
MOYO also advises checking expensive goods immediately upon receipt, not postponing inspection until later, opening parcels with the courier or at the point of delivery, and monitoring the integrity of the packaging and seals.
At the same time, a Threads user with the nickname navka1 shared similar story. According to her, she ordered an iPhone 17 Pro Max for her boyfriend’s birthday from the Comfy store with delivery by courier.
“The delivery was postponed for three days, but the courier still arrived. He said: “Just look at the seals.” The seals were intact. I signed the invoice. It was a gift box, after all, I didn’t want to spoil the look. The guy opens the box, tries to turn it on, but it doesn’t turn on. I insert the type-c and understand: this is not a phone. This is a very high-quality dummy,” the user wrote.
She said that she contacted the store’s service center, but was allegedly refused help. After that, she filed an application with the State Food and Consumer Service, consulted with the official representative office of Apple in Ukraine and is trying to file a statement with the police.
The user noted that her story could be perceived as untrue, because a similar situation had already happened to another person in the MOYO store, and added her request to the store’s service center with the date of purchase and the cause of the problem.
“It’s a “dummy” photo. It looks almost like the real thing. We didn’t even realize in the first minutes that something was wrong. The weight is also identical to the real phone. It only dawned on us when we tried to turn it on and charge it… Be careful,” she wrote.
The official Comfy Threads account responded user – the phone, according to store representatives, was received directly from the official Apple distributor.
“The entire path of the goods – from the warehouse to the moment of delivery – is recorded and controlled. The official service center confirmed your words: the device you provided is indeed not an original Apple product,” the message says.
