The task of the team – as reported – is to examine files, coordinate and monitor cases conducted in other units of the prosecutor's office regarding crime related to the cryptocurrency market. It was emphasized that the team would not conduct its own proceedings.

According to the statement, the team's research will focus on, in particular, matters relating to, among others: unauthorized taking of funds through unauthorized access to and transfer from cryptocurrency wallets, impersonating investment platforms in order to extort funds, the use of cryptocurrencies in money laundering and terrorist financing, as well as espionage and drug crime.

“The tasks of the team include conducting file examinations of the cases specified in the above three points in terms of their correctness, setting directions of proceedings, efficiency of carrying out procedural activities, as well as the appropriateness of making final decisions,” the release added. It was also emphasized that the team would also obtain current information on new cases submitted to prosecutors' offices.

As reported, the team included three prosecutors from the National Prosecutor's Office, and its head was Prosecutor Krzysztof Bukowiecki, Director of the Economic Crime Department of the National Prosecutor's Office.

By January 31, 2026, the team is to present a report on the file examination of the conducted proceedings, which – as the prosecutor's office emphasized – will include an assessment of the regularity of the proceedings, the nature of crime, the effectiveness of combating it by law enforcement authorities, and legal and organizational conclusions.

According to the statement, the purpose of establishing this team is to “determine the scale and characteristics of crime related to the cryptocurrency market and identify areas requiring possible legal or organizational changes.” As stated, the goal is also to support prosecutors in conducting this type of proceedings.
