The incident occurred on Sunday in the Los Gigantes area, in the commune of Santiago del Teide on the west coast of Tenerife. Three people died and three were injured after they were swept into the ocean by the waves.

The dead were – according to unofficial findings – tourists from Italy and Slovakia: a 55-year-old woman, a 35-year-old man and another man, whose age was not disclosed.

The injured people were women. One of the injured suffered a cardiac arrest, but she was resuscitated and transported by helicopter to the hospital. Another was taken to hospital with moderate injuries. The third person was treated on site by medical staff.
The incident occurred a few days after the Canary Islands authorities announced an early warning and advised people not to approach the coast.
These are subsequent incidents of this type recently. Last month, Spanish media reported that contact with powerful waves in Tenerife led to the death of three people.
