At a conference in the Middle East, he made a series of harsh accusations against Volodymyr Zelensky, suggesting that he is aware that he would not win the election if the war ends, and that he is almost a deity for the left, and that Ukraine is a much more corrupt country than Russia.
While the war continues and the plebs fight, Ukraine's corrupt bigwigs are fleeing the country, he said.
At the same time, he said he noticed this summer in Monaco that 50% of luxury cars such as Bugatti and Ferrari had Ukrainian license plates. “Do you think they were won in Ukraine?” he asked.
“We hear all the rumors about what happens when we see that every license plate in Monaco is Ukrainian […] the wealthy fled and left what they considered the lower class to fight in these wars. There was no incentive to stop as long as the money was coming and they were stealing and nobody was controlling anything, so there was no reason to make peace,” he said.
Asked if it was possible for his father, who promised in his election manifesto that he could bring peace to Ukraine, to abandon mediation, Trump Jr. said it was possible.
He has repeatedly criticized American support for Kiev and suggested that Ukraine's corruption problems make it unreasonable to support Kiev with military and financial aid.
In this regard, he emphasized that the US will no longer be “the idiot with the checkbook”.
Criticism of the EU
Donald Trump Jr also had harsh words for EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, arguing that European sanctions are not working because they have only increased the price of oil, which Russia can use to finance its war. “We're waiting for Russia to go bankrupt, that's not a plan,” he said.
Trump Jr. does not have a formal role in the US administration, but is an important figure in the MAGA movement, and his comments reflect the antipathy that some members of Trump's team have towards the Ukrainian government, and comes in the context of Trump's negotiating team putting pressure on Kiev to compromise with Russia, notes The Guardian.
