Nicusor Dan's message after the drone explosion in Constanța Port: “The security environment we are in is a sensitive one”

President Nicusor Dan declared, on Friday, that he was informed while on his way to Montenegro about the explosion of a marine drone in the Port of Constanța, pointing out that it is the second significant security incident this week, after the discovery of a sea mine between Vama Veche and 2 Mai, which is added to the incident in Galati.

According to the head of state, the security environment in which we find ourselves is a sensitive one and we will maintain a high level of vigilance, he emphasizing that such particularly serious situations are the direct consequences of the war of aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine.

“On my way to Montenegro, I was informed about the explosion of a marine drone in the Port of Constanţa. The law enforcement and security structures acted promptly and evacuated the area as a precaution before the explosion, and so far there are no indications that there were any victims”the president said in a post on Facebook.

The head of state shows that the priority was and remains the protection of human lives and the security of the port infrastructure.

“The circumstances under which the drone arrived at the port and the possible additional risks are being analyzed, and the directly responsible authorities will communicate as the investigation progresses”, Nicuşor Dan also announces.

The President mentions that this is the second significant security incident this week on the Romanian coast, after the discovery of a sea mine between Vama Veche and 2 Mai, which is added to the Galati incident.

“With a military conflict on the border, it is obvious that the security environment we are in is a sensitive one, which is why we will maintain a high level of vigilance. Such particularly serious situations are the direct consequences of the war of aggression launched by Russia against Ukraine. As a NATO member state with access to the Black Sea, we will continue to cooperate closely with our allies and will take all necessary measures to protect citizens and national interests.” states the head of state in the message.

The head of the Department for Emergency Situations, Raed Arafat, warned, on Friday, in a press conference, that it is possible that there are other drones that could explode, which is why the preventive evacuation was decided on a radius of one kilometer in the coastal area.
