Attack on a Catholic school in Nigeria. Some of the students regained their freedom


The attack on a Catholic boarding school in Papiri in western Nigeria occurred on the night of November 20-21. Armed perpetrators broke into the school and abducted 315 people – 303 students and 12 teachers – or about half of the people staying there.
The very next night, 50 students managed to escape from captivity and return safely home, but so far there has been no information about the fate of the remaining 265 people.

So far, no one has taken responsibility for it kidnapping, which in terms of the number of people abducted is one of the worst incidents of this type in recent years in Nigeria.
Following the kidnapping, all schools in Niger State and several other neighboring states were closed until further notice, and President Bola Tinubu canceled international meetings, including participation in the G20 summit in Johannesburg, South Africa. It is not yet known how the Nigerian government managed to free 100 students or what the fate of the remaining kidnapped students is.
