The statement comes in the context of recent concerns regarding possible higher expenses for Romanians in 2026.

Nicușor Dan explained that the VAT measures are applied proportionally in the 2025 and 2026 budgets. “The coalition took some measures that are applied proportionally, i.e. on VAT, it is the same measure that was taken and that in the 2025 budget impacted 5 months, in the 2026 budget it will impact 12 months. If, with the current measures, we managed to go down from somewhere around 10 where we were in reality to 8.4, this is where we will fall, with the same measures, we are already somewhere around 6.5 in my opinion”, said the president a few days ago, on December 3.

He also emphasized that none of the parties in the coalition is considering increasing taxes.

On Sunday, December 7, the citizens of Bucharest will elect their general mayor in a partial local election that will determine the leadership of the Capital for the next 2 and a half years. Similar elections also take place in Buzău county, as well as in 12 other localities in the country. Details about turnout and the voting process can be seen here.

Nicușor Dan voted around 09:15, declaring later “I voted for a Romania in the West, for these values that I think define us, and because it's a city I've known for a very long time… Knowing the temptations that are at the Bucharest City Hall, I voted for someone who would be sure that he doesn't come close to the area of corruption and especially the area of the real estate mafia”.
