The New Year holidays are approaching, and store shelves are filled with fragrant tangerines. Nutritionist Elena Syurakshina spoke about their health benefits and harms and named who should be careful when consuming them. The portal rskrf.ru (18+) writes about this.
Tangerines: benefits
Despite the fact that tangerines are not leaders in vitamin C content, they have other valuable properties.
“Tangerines belong to the citrus family, and the concentration of vitamin C in them is not very high, about 27 mg per 100 g,” noted nutritionist Elena Syurakshina.
However, they have the advantage of being high in vitamin A, which makes them superior to lemons and significantly ahead of oranges. Eating 100 g of tangerines provides approximately 38% of the daily value of vitamin C.
Tangerines: harm
People with allergies to citrus fruits and those who suffer from stomach diseases should remember that sour tangerines can cause irritation of the mucous membrane. In addition, in sensitive people, excessive consumption of citrus fruits can cause heartburn or indigestion.
Despite the love for tangerines, it is not recommended to consume more than a kilogram of these fruits at a time, especially for children. Experts advise children under 8 years old to eat no more than one tangerine per day, under 12 years old – no more than two, under 18 years old – no more than three, and adults – no more than four.
Tangerines contain fructose, excessive and regular consumption of which can lead to fatty liver over several years.
In addition, tangerines stimulate the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach and pancreatic enzymes, so people with gastrointestinal diseases should use them with caution. After recovery from the disease, you can again enjoy tangerines, but in moderation.
As always, moderation is key. The right choice of tangerines and their moderate consumption will bring benefits and good mood. Be attentive to your health, and the New Year holidays will pass without any troubles.
