It was noted that Friday's meeting was their sixth in two weeks. The sides discussed recent talks between the American delegation and the Russians and steps that could lead to an end to the war.

The American side is represented by special envoy Steve Witkoff and the US president's son-in-law Jared Kushner, and the Ukrainian side is represented by the head of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) Rustem Umerov and the chief of the General Staff General Andriy Hnatov. According to previous reports, negotiations are ongoing in Florida.

“The Americans and Ukrainians also agreed on a framework of security conditions and discussed the necessary deterrence capabilities to maintain lasting peace,” the State Department said in a statement.

It added that both sides agreed that “real progress towards any agreement depends on Russia's willingness to demonstrate a serious commitment to long-term peace, including steps towards de-escalation and an end to the killing.”

The parties also discussed the plan for the development of Ukraine after the end of the war and joint economic initiatives.

The delegations stressed that an end to the war and credible steps towards a ceasefire and de-escalation are necessary to prevent a resumption of aggression and enable Ukraine to implement its reconstruction plan.

The parties are scheduled to continue talks on Saturday, the State Department said.
