A 38-year-old man from Ialomiţa, wanted internationally for aggravated murder, after killing, in 2021, a 21-year-old man and his daughter, aged 1 year and 4 months, was located and arrested in Great Britain, the Romanian Police announced on Saturday.

The Romanian was caught following “the operative exchange of information between the police officers of the Criminal Investigation Service of the Ialomița County Police Inspectorate and the Office of the Attaché of Internal Affairs from Great Britain”, the Romanian Police reported

He was wanted on the basis of a prison sentence execution warrant issued by the Ialomita Court, having been sentenced to 20 years in prison for domestic violence in the form of aggravated murder.

The conviction is based on an accident in 2021, when the man intentionally drove his car into another car.

The tragedy occurred when the man had come from abroad to spend Easter in the country. After heavy consumption of alcohol, the man argued with his relatives, and then got behind the wheel and threatened to get into the first car he saw, according to Știri pe Surse.

He got behind the wheel of a Renault Espace, and started on DJ 201, in the town of Borăneşti. According to the investigators, he drove chaotically, at 126 km/h, although the legal limit was 90 km/h. Shortly after, he entered the opposite direction, maintaining the direction without braking, although a Ford Focus regularly came in front, in which there was a young family: a couple and their daughter of only one year and four months.

The Court of Appeal of Bucharest issued, on October 9, 2025, the final decision in this case, but the man had fled the country.

“The police officers in Ialomița were informed by the internal affairs attaché in London about the detection of the wanted person. The identification was possible after several informations transmitted on the international cooperation channel INTERPOL, in which updated data about his location were provided”, stated the Romanian Police.

The man is to be extradited to Romania to serve his sentence.
