Eurostar and Deutsche Bahn will launch high-speed London-Frankfurt trains


Eurostar and Deutsche Bahn plan to launch high-speed connections between London and the German cities of Cologne and Frankfurt. According to the British government, the first trains are scheduled to depart in the early 2030s.

Direct connections are expected to significantly shorten travel time. The journey from London to Cologne will take around four hours, and to Frankfurt – just over five hours. The modern, double-decker Eurostar Celestia trains that will serve these routes will be more ecological and will reduce energy consumption by up to 50%.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized that nThese rail links will help strengthen the UK's position in Europe, supporting trade, tourism and investment. Transport Minister Heidi Alexander noted that cooperation between Eurostar and Deutsche Bahn has the potential to revolutionize cross-border rail travel in Europe for many years to come.
The signing of the memorandum between the carriers coincided with the state visit of German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Great Britain. During it, together with Prime Minister Starmer, he participated in talks with business leaders from both countries.

Eurostar is a high-speed international railway connecting Great Britain with France, Belgium and the Netherlands, best known for its passages through the Channel Tunnel.
Deutsche Bahn (DB) is the German national rail operator that offers a wide range of domestic and international connections. DB operates both regional trains and ICE fast long-distance trains, connecting Germany's largest cities such as Berlin, Munich and Frankfurt.
