The General Staff of the Polish Army and the Polish Atomic Energy Agency signed a cooperation agreement, among others. in the country's radiological protection and radiation monitoring of the country by military and civilian services. It is primarily about the exchange of data and experiences as well as cooperation in analyses.

The General Staff of the Polish Army announced the signing of the agreement on the development and strengthening of nuclear safety and radiological protection of the country in a press release; As we read, on Wednesday they were signed by the head of the SGWP, General Wiesław Kukuła, and the president of PAA, Andrzej Głowacki.
“The agreement assumes close cooperation, primarily in the area of national radiation monitoring and preparation and response to radiation emergencies. The key form of this cooperation will be the exchange of information and experience, including measurement data from national and international radiation monitoring systems, as well as knowledge regarding the organization and methods of conducting the identification of radioactive contamination,” the statement reads.
The General Staff, responsible for the Contamination Detection System of the Polish Armed Forces, and the PAA, the government administration body responsible for the area of nuclear safety and radiological protection, also declare “cooperation in the analyzes and assessments of the radiation situation, taking into account threats of a military and non-military nature, as well as the implementation of joint training and development of specialist staff.”
As it was emphasized, the agreement is part of the “East Shield” program for strengthening the borders with Russia and Belarus. As part of the “East Shield”, it is also planned to create a system for detecting and monitoring radioactive contamination, “providing the ability to immediately warn and alert about occurring threats, as well as feeding analytical systems with data necessary to develop adequate countermeasures.”
“The experience resulting from many years of cooperation carried out within the National Contamination Detection and Alarm System confirms that uniform procedures for dealing with emergency situations are crucial for the state's ability to conduct immediate, effective and coordinated actions of the relevant services, including the involvement of the Polish Armed Forces for the safety of society,” we read.
“The modern security environment requires close cooperation between civilian and military institutions. Combining the potential of the National Atomic Energy Agency and the Polish Armed Forces strengthens the state's ability to early detect threats and effectively respond to crisis situations in Poland, especially in the areas covered by the East Shield program,” said General Kukuła, quoted in the announcement.
The PAA President emphasized that “the National Atomic Energy Agency is the Polish nuclear regulator.” “Our activities focus on ensuring the highest safety standards of nuclear facilities and devices using ionizing radiation. We are glad that in this area we are acquiring such a valuable partner as the General Staff of the Polish Army. As an institution with over 40 years of experience, we are open to cooperation and exchange of knowledge with such an important partner,” declared Głowacki. (PAP)
