

“This is part of a cognitive operation against Ukraine. It is also tied to diplomatic processes and Russian tactics to put pressure on Ukraine and delay US efforts,” Kovalenko explained.
According to him, the goal of the Russian Federation is “additional pressure on Ukrainian society,” as well as “information imitation of the Russian army’s ability to “win everywhere at the front.”
Kovalenko noted that the Russians do not have the real forces and means to attack Chernigov specifically.
Also, the Ukrainian defense forces control the situation in the Chernihiv region, and provocations of the enemy in the border area are stopped by force, although “they are possible in the future,” the head of the CPD emphasized.
“The enemy has previously carried out similar cognitive operations in Sumy and Kharkov. Let me remind you that the SOU stopped the Russians, who did not have the strength to attack large cities,” Kovalenko concluded.
Context
At the beginning of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Russian invaders occupied part of the Chernihiv region, but the enemy was driven out in early April.
The occupiers continue periodically shell the region from the territory of the aggressor country Russia.
