In December, the windows are closed, the radiators are hot, and there is a mixture of smells in the house: dust from bookshelves, old wallpaper, remnants of dinner and stuffiness from the heating. Even after cleaning, the feeling of “stagnant” air remains. Aroma candles and sprays only mask the smell and also leave a chemical trail.
But there is a simple way to purify the air and fill your home with a pleasant aroma. All you need are two ingredients that everyone has: dried orange zest and a cinnamon stick.
How to do:
- Take a small glass jar or mug.
- Add the dry zest of one orange.
- Add 1-2 cinnamon sticks.
- Place the jar on the windowsill, next to the radiator or on the kitchen windowsill.
Orange zest is a natural odor neutralizer; it absorbs dust and greasy molecules. Cinnamon has antimicrobial properties and gently refreshes the air, not interrupting it, but purifying it. When heated by the battery, the aroma opens and the house smells pleasant.
Change the mixture every 7-10 days.
Within a day you will no longer feel the “heavy” air. By the New Year, your home will smell like orange mulled wine and festive warmth.
Question and answer:
Can I use fresh orange peel?
It’s better not to, as it will start to dry out, may become moldy and increase the humidity. Dried zest is safe and lasts longer.
Where can I get dry zest?
Dry the peels of 1-2 oranges on a radiator for 1-2 days.
