Radu Constantea, the president of the Universitatea Cluj club, announced that the experienced Alexandru Chipciu (36 years old) and Dan Nistor (37 years old) are close to signing new contracts with the Transylvanian group.
This season, Nistor scored 3 goals and delivered 4 assists in 17 games, while Chipciu played in 19 games.
Dan Nistor and Alexandru Chipciu extend their contracts with Cluj University
“I think we will try to make 1-2 transfers in the winter. Departures were not discussed, we will see after these matches. I certainly think that Murgia also had other expectations from him. We hope that he will recover as soon as possible and be the player we saw last year in Hermannstadt. He had a small injury, now he has started participating in training.
We are in advanced discussions to extend another season with Nistor and Chipciu, their contracts expire in the summer of 2026, but we have already initiated discussions and they are advanced”, said Radu Constantea, according to fanatik.ro.
Season below expectations for U Cluj
After finishing in 4th place in the play-off of the previous season, U Cluj missed the qualification in the Conference League groups this season, and in the SuperLiga it is in 10th place, with 24 points after 18 stages.
“I think the top 4 teams have a number of important points, it won't be easy to enter the play-offs. We have to take into account that there are important teams behind us as well. The important thing is to accumulate as many points as possible until the end of this calendar year. I think we are still fighting until the end.
Sure it would be a disappointment, but it wouldn't be dramatic from a financial perspective. We have to be fair and aware that we are not a team that claims to be in the play-offs every year. Regardless of the results, I believe that access to the play-offs will be played until the end, anything can happen,” Constantea said.
After the match with Sepsi in the Romanian Cup, Cluj University will face FC Hermannstadt on December 7, from 15:00, in stage #19 of the SuperLiga.
