Why doesn't Mircea Badea believe in the poll that shows Anca Alexandrescu on the rise

The AtlasIntel survey for HotNews was the first to reveal that Anca Alexandrescu has a real chance of winning the Capital City Hall, in the elections on Sunday, December 7.
In the AtlasIntel survey, Daniel Băluță has 23.3% and Anca Alexandrescu has 23.2%, practically the difference of 0.1%. In US electoral terms, it would be a “too close to predict” race, also valid for third-placed Ciprian Ciucu, who follows him with 21.7%. All three are within the margin of error.

“I have a theory, which, of course, can be disproved or be false,” said Mircea Badea, referring to the survey. The creator of Antena 3 mentioned that the survey was conducted during the week of November 27-30.
“I'm not blaming anyone, but I'll tell you what my opinion is: in Romania, people only vote on emotion, on nothing else, and an emotion was intended,” said Mircea Badea. And he explained his theory: the emotion is “on the idea: jump, the Putinist wins by Anca Alexandrescu or maybe Daniel Băluță, from the Red Plague”.
“They are trying to mobilize the right-wing electorate in Bucharest”, Mircea Badea summarized his theory, in the program dedicated to the media, from Antena 3. Badea said that there is another idea that may emerge from the results: “Don't vote for Drula, because he is behind, vote for Ciucu. That's how I see it. Maybe I'm not right, maybe the poll is accurate, we'll see”, Badea said.
In a CURS survey published today, December 3, the hierarchy also has Daniel Băluță as leader, but Anca Alexandrescu is only fourth. Daniel Băluță has 26%, followed by Ciprian Ciucu – with 23%, Cătălin Drula – with 22% and Anca Alexandrescu with 17%.
The director of Avangarde, Marius Pieleanu, who also intervened by phone at Antena 3, said that he does not see Anca Alexandrescu so highly placed.
In a statement that accompanied the publication of the survey, Andrei Roman, CEO of AtlasIntel said: “The AtlasIntel / HotNews survey for the Capital City Hall was conducted to the highest methodological standards of our company, which characterize our trajectory in Romania and in more than 30 countries. These standards also include the absence of any kind of political interference on the results of our studies or the opportunity to publish them.”
In the local elections of 2024, the AtlasIntel polls were among the most accurate in Romania, compared to the centralized end of the vote.
Then, in the presidential elections in the fall of 2024 and in the spring of 2025, the quality of the polls was preserved.
There were also errors in the polls made by AtlasIntel, such as the placement of Călin Georgescu in the 5th place, the candidate occupying the 1st place in the vote, in the 1st round. Instead, AtlasIntel correctly assessed in the poll the entry in the 2nd round of Elena Lasconi.
