In July, journalists from Radio Liberty's Schemes project identified Sorokin, a father of two, as a doctor who tortured Ukrainians in Colony No. 10 and whom captives called Doctor Evil or Doctor Shocker.

Sorokin’s suspicion states that captured Ukrainians have been sent to the colony in Mordovia since 2014, when Russia’s armed aggression began in Donbass. The document lists a number of cases of ill-treatment by the suspect against Ukrainians, including defenders of Mariupol, Donetsk region.

The episodes mentioned in the suspicion are dated different years, 2024 inclusive. They describe exactly how Sorokin tortured captured Ukrainians.

“Sorokin, acting deliberately, […] systematically ordered the hands to be moved out of the cell, allegedly to obtain the necessary medications, after which he used an electroshock device, with which he inflicted two or three electric shocks in the area of the victim’s outstretched arm, and also inflicted three to five blows with a bunch of keys in the area of the victim’s head, while forcing him to imitate the barking of dogs, which could last up to 20 minutes,” one of the episodes is described.

The Office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine summoned Sorokin for questioning at the Security Service of Ukraine in Kyiv on December 17, 18 and 19.
