Congenital heart malformations are structural defects of the heart that appear during intrauterine development and often persist after birth.. They can change the way blood flows through the heart and body, or the way the heart chambers and valves form.

In some cases, it's about abnormal communications between the heart's chambers, valves that don't work properly, or large vessels in abnormal positions. Statistical, about 9 out of 1000 babies are born with a congenital heart defectranking these conditions among the most common congenital defects.
