The councilor has an idea for a Russian consulate. “It would show the mechanisms of manipulation”

Gdańsk still has no specific plans for the development of the building, but the first ideas in this matter have appeared. Gdańsk councilor Marcin Mickun presented his concept in an interpellation addressed to the city authorities. The politician representing the Civic Coalition believes that information and educational activities can be carried out in the building in the future. “A place that would show the mechanisms of manipulation, document propaganda activities and serve to build information resistance, especially in the context of Russian influence on public debate,” the councilor writes on his Facebook profile.

The tenement house belongs to the State Treasury. The Russians did not pay for using it
– We are working on the concept of real estate development, but all decisions must be agreed with the government – said a few days ago, the spokesman for the mayor of Gdańsk, Daniel Stenzel, in an interview with RMF FM. He also expressed concerns about the condition of the facility. — None of us have ever been inside. We don't know what to expect there, he added.

The issue of fees for using the tenement house is also controversial. In the 1970s, the building was formally entered into the land and mortgage register as the property of the State Treasury. From then on, the Russians should have paid rent to the city for using the facility, but they did not. The receivable for the years 2013-2023 is to amount to PLN 5.5 million plus interest. Additionally, from mid-2023, further fees are charged, estimated at nearly PLN 2 million. The city of Gdańsk announces that despite the move out, the debt will not be forgotten. “When it comes to debt, the issue is not over for us,” Stenzel declares in an interview with trojmiasto.pl. He adds that financial obligations towards the city should be settled by the Russian embassy in Warsaw.
