Rare footage from the life of the columnist was captured by a camera on the territory of the Shushensky Bor national park.

As the press service of the national park reported, this is small, but extremely secretive a representative of the Mustelidae family is rarely caught on camera, which makes the resulting video recordings especially valuableAnd.

“On the received video frames, the nimble animal demonstrated its inherent natural curiosity: for a short time, lingering in front of the camera trap lens, it carefully examined the surroundings of the animal trail. To get a better overview of the territory, the speaker easily climbed onto a birch trunk, from where he probably assessed the situation“, — experts explained.

The Siberian weasel leads a solitary, predominantly crepuscular and nocturnal lifestyle, but in winter it becomes more active during the day. Its individual area can reach several square kilometers. Moreover, in addition to the main home, these animals always have several spare shelters located in different parts of its area. To communicate with relatives, the Siberian weasel uses a complex system of scent marks, which it leaves on trees and the ground. These markers serve as a reliable way to mark property boundaries and convey information. In addition, postures, facial expressions and a wide repertoire of sounds play an important role in the “communication” of animals – from growls to characternogo chirping.

Despite the small size (dThe body length of males is 28-39 cm, body weight is 400-600 grams, sometimes up to 800 grams), this animal is endowed with remarkable strength, dexterity and agility. The colony's diet consists mainly of small rodents, as well as frogs, lizards, beetles, grasshoppers; it also readily eats bird eggs. Sometimes relatively large animals become its prey – hares, muskrats, black grouse, wood grouse and waterfowl..

One of the main enemies of the weasel is sable and mink. In the wild, the life expectancy of this animal does not exceed 2–4 years on average..
