Israel Defense Minister Israel Katz said on Saturday that his army had killed a veteran commander in the external arm of Iranian revolutionary guards (IRGC), through an apartment in Iranian Qom, reports Reuters.
Veteran commander, Saeed Izadi, was leading the Palestinian body of the Quds force, Katz said, according to a press release. Until the time of publication of this news there is no confirmation from IRGC.
Katz said that Izadi financed and armed Hamas during the initial attacks of October 7, 2023, describing the killing of the commander as a “great achievement for Israeli and Air Force services.”
Izadi was sanctioned by the US and the UK for its ties with Hamas and the Palestinian militant faction, which also participated in the attacks on October 7.
The Quds force built a network of allies in the Arab world known as the resistance axis, setting up Hezbollah in Lebanon in 1982 and supporting the Palestinian militant Islamist group in the Gaza strip.
But the network lined up with Iran has suffered major blows in the last two years, because the Israeli offensives after the Hamas attacks on October 7, 2023 on Israel weakened both the Palestinian and Hezbollah group.
